When the American Red Cross sets up a disaster or emergency aid shelter, how many people does that really effect? We wanted to find out, and this is what we learned.

The American Red Cross has launched relief operations in 10 states, Washington D.C., and Puerto Rico, to help those affected by superstore Sandy. During that time 72,500 people stayed in shelters. Obviously, that is a substantial number of people, and Sandy had even been downgraded to a superstorm from a hurricane, by the time it hit the easter seaboard.
The GO|STAY|KIT is an important shelter access tool to have, and is vital in any type of natural disaster or medical emergency. It provides shelter intake workers and medical professionals with vital on-the-spot access to help guide treatment.
Some other important superstorm Sandy stats. The American Red Cross provided 54,800 emotional support, and health contacts. They activated more than 300 response vehicles, and distributed more than 1.3 million relief items.
