Our CMO Tena decided to start taking CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) training in southern Oregon. She wants to know exactly what to do in the event of a natural or man-made disaster, she also wants to learn how to help others in that type of situation. The following is her journal of events. She will add to this memoir as she attends more classes.
TENA – I recently went to the Central Point CERT meeting where they were giving a presentation on how the Pacific Northwest should prepare for the “BIG” earthquake. The title of the meeting was PNW Earthquake. The last disaster that the Rogue Valley witnessed was the 1997 flood, and that was bad enough, but when it comes to earthquakes, the Pacific Northwest is already long overdue.
History shows us that about every 310 years, Oregon experiences an 8.0-9.0 magnitude earthquake. 2013, marks the 313th year since that last “Big” quake and many regions throughout the state including southern Oregon, are creating disaster plans and educating citizens, so that everyone is more prepared for such an imminent catastrophe.
