Dear Portland, Ore. Resident,
We’re writing to inform you that there has been an outbreak of the HZV virus in Bend, Oregon. We have received reports of three patients exhibiting zombie-like symptoms, and these individuals are currently in quarantine.
This is merely a public safety announcement. There is absolutely no cause for panic. We repeat: NO CAUSE FOR PANIC. The situation is being monitored carefully, and we’ll keep you informed of any updates. In the interest of preparing our communities, we are asking the citizens of Portland to take the following precautionary steps in the next 72 hours:
1) Check or Assemble your Emergency Kit. Here <http://www.portlandoregon.gov/pbem/article/409973%20> is a list of recommended supplies, and here <http://public.health.oregon.gov/Preparedness/Prepare/Pages/BuildAKitVideo.aspx> is a video on how to build a kit on a budget. Please do everything you can to have this kit assembled and ready before the weekend. Most importantly: find a hand-crank or battery operated radio.
2) Print a map of Portland and of the greater Multnomah County. This is for strategizing possible evacuation routes, if needed.
3) Print out and complete this Communication Plan <http://www.sandiegofast.org/images/commplan.jpg> with your family or household.
4) Download the Red Cross First Aid app <http://www.redcross.org/mobile-apps/first-aid-app> for adults or the Red Cross Monster Guard app <http://www.redcross.org/monsterguard> for kids.
We will send out updates on the situation this Friday (2/20) – please check your email for further details.
