Hurricane Patricia 10/24

It turned out that Mexico’s large mountainous regions took much of the destructive energy out of Patricia. This is great news for citizens worried about the effects this category 5 hurricane would have. Although Mexico escaped serious damage it’s still a lesson learned – to be prepared, just in cause a natural disaster comes your way.

The remnants of hurricane Patricia dropped heavy rain over central Mexico today. Coastal luxury resorts and impoverished villages were hit hard as the category 5 storm uprooted trees, toppled power lines and caused mudslides.

Patricia, the strongest hurricane ever recorded at sea, weakened slightly before striking southwestern Mexico’s coast yesterday evening with crushing 165-mph sustained winds.

Patricia has now been downgraded to a tropical depression, with 35-mph sustained winds. It’s expected to dissipate tonight. There were no reports of fatalities or major damage.
