PREP means, (Planning for Resilience & Emergency Preparedness) and while this is a Portland Ore. based organization, it can also be duplicated in other locations as well.
PREP is a do-it-yourself program at www.preporegon.org to help families, households and neighborhoods prepare to handle any emergency, from storms and power outages to floods and earthquakes. PREP provides the information you need, in three steps.
- Get Prepared: Prepare your household and help your neighbors prepare – what to know, what to have on hand, simple ways to get started today.
- Get Organized: Make a plan with your neighbors for helping each other after the disaster.
- Get Confident: Keep current and learn new skills by practicing together.
PREP is a collaborative effort among citizens, community groups and public agencies. PREP also includes information about resources, long-term resilience, and a calendar of preparedness events.
The goal of the PREP program and website is to help Portland metro area residents and other Oregonians get ready to come through a major disaster, and recover quickly.
PREP has been developed by the PREP steering committee, which includes volunteer first responders and members of community groups, in particular Transition PDX. Also collaborating are many Portland Ore. public and private partners, including:
- Portland Bureau of Emergency Management
- Portland Fire and Rescue.
- Multnomah County Emergency Management
- Portland’s neighborhood district offices: Central Northeast Neighbors, East Portland Neighborhood Office, Neighbors West-Northwest, North Portland Neighborhood Services, Northeast Coalition of Neighborhoods, Southeast Uplift Neighborhood Coalition, Southwest Neighborhoods, Inc.
