BEING PREPARED

imagesWe’ve been promoting the GO|STAY|KIT since 2009 and we’ve learned a few disaster preparedness truths over these past years. One, is that 6 out of 10 American families say they don’t have a family emergency plan, and only 19% say they are “very prepared” for a disaster.

Disasters don’t come with warning labels, so instead of thinking of disasters in “news media” terms like Katrina or Sandy, prepare for them by asking yourself ‘what could happen to me and my family in my area?

Any amount of preparation is good, start somewhere! You just need a little bit of common sense and chose what’s obvious to start your 72-hour Kit. Talk to your children about emergencies in an age-appropriate way, they’ll appreciate being included.
