SEPT. IS NATIONAL PREPAREDNESS MONTH!

FEMA BillboardEmergencies can happen unexpectedly in communities everywhere, to people like you. Local responders may be overwhelmed in a large emergency and may not be able to get to everyone, and the most important step you can take to prepare for an emergency is to be able to take care of yourself and those in your care. The more people who are prepared, the quicker our communities can recover.

This September, pledge to prepare and plan in the event you must go for at least three days without electricity, water service, access to a supermarket, or local services. To do this, you can follow these 4 simple steps:

  • Build a Kit
  • Make a Plan
  • Be Informed
  • Get Involved

Having the GO|STAY|KITâ„¢ is also an important way to “Build a Kit” and prepare for a natural or man-made disaster, or medical emergency. It allows you to have all your important personal and medical information with you in case you are asked to “stay in place” or go to an “emergency evacuation shelter.”
