Yesterday GSK staffers attended an emergency preparedness fire safety class at Industrial Source in Portland. It was an on-site OSHA Compliant fire extinguisher training course.
The confidence gained by using an extinguisher on a real fire is invaluable. Also, knowing when to use a fire extinguisher is just as important as knowing when not to use one. Here are some of the highlights.
– When In Doubt – Get Out!
– Know where your nearest exit is.
– Know where your designated outside meet-up spot is.
– Don’t use a fire extinguisher upside down.
– Use PASS, it means…
P=Pull or twist the round pin near the handle
A=Aim the nozzle at the base of the fire
S=Squeeze the fire extinguisher trigger
S=Sweep the flames, aiming from left to right
