PRE-Disaster

For most people getting ready for a disaster can be more difficult than actually going though one. Getting the motivation to collect the dozen items you’ll need for your 72-hour Go Bag seems to most people a daunting challenge. Organizations like FEMA, and your local emergency management group are always trying to come up with new and more clever ways of getting you to prepare, (no matter how small) just so long as you start somewhere. The reason is when an actual disaster happens first responders will be swamped. The latest little acronym they have come up with is PRE-Disaster, this is what it stands for.

P – Planning, get ready somehow with a plan and a disaster Kit of some kind

R – Resilience, bounce back, make sure you can weather the “storm” and come back from it

E – Education, find out all you can about the disasters that could happen in your area, and learn about disaster preparedness in general, knowledge is power.

Hope this has helped. (get ready while things are relatively quite)Portland photo
