How do you get your children interested in preparing for an emergency event like a natural disaster? This is a difficult thing to do especially since nobody wants to talk about it, and many people feel that its the government’s responsibility anyway. Even so, as parents (most especially) of smaller children and teenagers, there should be a (sit down) of some kind or a (family meeting) where these issues are discussed.
Perhaps a good time for such a meeting is when a natural disaster of some kind strikes another region of the world or the U.S. This might open the door to conversation about emergency preparedness and how it relates to your family on a personal level. Informing your kids about what you (as a family) should do in case an emergency event happens near your home is of paramount importance.
One of the ways you might get your children involved in this topic is to have a scavenger hunt around your home for each of the essential items to put in your 72-hour “Go Bag.” This might be a fun thing to do to prepare, without really seeming to prepare.
