Dry weather and drought conditions are fueling an outbreak of wildfires across the South. Thousand of acres have burned and heavy smoke is raising air quality concerns. Residents in these areas are being urged to wear special masks if they must do outdoor activities.
More than 70 wildfires stretch across eight southern states – including North Carolina, Georgia and Tennessee. In North Carolina, flames are threatening over 1,700 structures.
Crews and resources have poured in from as far as California to help fight these flames but this continuing drought is making it difficult with no rain in the forecast.
