The North Carolina Department of Public Safety (Emergency Management) has discovered a solution to what to do with your pets when you have to go to an emergency aid shelter. They have created a separate trailer called (CAMET) or the Companion Animal Mobile Equipment Trailer, to house your pet while you are inside the shelter.
We were discussing this topic at a recent emergency management Pet Preparedness seminar at ResilienceNW and, other than not being able to take your pet inside a shelter, we really couldn’t come up with an answer to this problem, besides trying to find some place nearby that might house your pet, or going to a pet friendly motel.
