We saw these high water signs at Cannon beach near Haystack rock on the Oregon coast last weekend, and it made us think of tsunami preparedness.
If you hear an official tsunami warning siren, or you see the ocean quickly receding, evacuate at once. Take your GO|STAY|KIT and your 72-hour emergency preparedness Kit. Take your pets, they may not be there when you get back. 
Get to higher ground as far inland as you can go, watching the tsunami wave hit the beach might be good for photos, but it can be deadly for you. If you can see the wave you are to close to escape it.
