Many evacuated as dozens of twisters touched down in Oklahoma and Nebraska. 2 people were killed and many homes destroyed. Area residents had to flee quickly in the path of the oncoming tornadoes. The midwest storms spawned a reported 23 tornadoes, according to the Storm Prediction Center, and more than 90 hail reports. Today, crews from the National Weather Service will survey tornado-ravaged areas and determine the extent of the damage.
The complex of storms also caused localized flooding in Texas. Regional emergency management in Lamar County reported people were evacuated as floodwaters surged above car windows. People had to grab what they could quickly carry and leave their homes in a hurry.
